Hon. Ebi Bright urges residents to take ownership of their environment
The Mayor of Tema, Hon. Ebi Bright, on Saturday led residents, Assembly staff, and community volunteers in a massive Sanitation Day exercise across key parts of the metropolis.
The clean-up activities covered the Tema Manhean main stretch, the Light Industrial Area—including sections behind Angel Heights Hotel and the Low Cost Electoral Area—and the Community One Central Business District (CBD).
The exercise formed part of the Assembly’s sustained efforts to promote environmental cleanliness and public health across the city.
During the operation, the Mayor directed the Works Department to demolish unauthorized structures that had encroached on public spaces at Tema Site 1, hindering free flow of water and access to drains. The move initially created tension between some youth and community elders in the area.
However, Hon. Ebi Bright swiftly intervened, engaging both parties in dialogue and ensuring that the situation was resolved peacefully. Her intervention restored calm and allowed the exercise to continue smoothly.
Addressing the media after the exercise, Hon. Bright commended residents and Assembly staff for their commitment and teamwork. She emphasized that maintaining a clean city requires collective responsibility from all citizens.
> “Our environment is our shared home. Each of us must take ownership of it. Clean communities mean healthy lives,” she said.
Across other sections of Tema, desilting of drains, refuse collection, and general cleaning were carried out successfully, with residents turning up in their numbers.
Hon. Bright reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to enforcing sanitation by-laws, reclaiming public spaces, and sustaining the city’s beautification drive under her leadership.
