The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) has intensified its ongoing sewer rehabilitation works across the metropolis as part of efforts to improve sanitation and prevent environmental health hazards.
Speaking after an inspection tour of some project sites, the Mayor of Tema, Hon. Ebi Bright, said the initiative forms part of a broader infrastructure upgrade aimed at restoring and modernizing the city’s aging sewer system.
She explained that the works, which have already commenced in several communities, will be extended systematically to cover every zone within the metropolis. “Tema was built with one of the earliest sewer systems in Ghana. After years of wear, blockages, and encroachments, we are now undertaking a citywide restoration to ensure a cleaner and safer environment for all,” she stated.
Hon. Ebi Bright called on residents to cooperate with contractors and avoid dumping solid waste into manholes and drains, noting that such practices often lead to blockages and overflow during the rainy season.
She further assured that the Assembly is committed to ensuring minimal disruption to public life during the exercise, adding that communities will be duly notified ahead of scheduled works.
The ongoing project is expected to significantly improve wastewater management, enhance public health, and support Tema’s broader vision of becoming a modern, climate-resilient city.
