Ghana’s premier Port City and industrial hub; Tema Metro, has marked the 68th Independence Anniversary in grand Style. The ‘modern’ City of Tema features prominently in the scheme of things anytime Ghana Celebrates its Founding hero, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

The Tema Traditional Area existed several centuries before the founding of modern Ghana. The First President of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah compulsorily acquired over seventy percent of Traditional Tema lands for the construction of the Tema Township, The Sea Port, and the Industrial Enclaves as part of his Industrialization drive for the Nation.

These and many more, attests to the massive achievements of our first President.

The Independence story cannot be told without paying glowing tribute to Dr. Nkrumah and indeed the patriotic indigenes of Tema who paid the ultimate price of sacrificing their heritage for the good of the nation.

It is in the spirit of statehood and appreciation to the founding fathers that residents of Tema Metropolis came out in their numbers to participate in the commemoration of Ghana’s Independence Anniversary celebration hosted at the Community 8 number 2 Basic School Park.

Students and pupils selected from Basic and SHSs in the Tema Metropolis were on Parade to mark the day as they displayed their marching skills to the admiration of participants at the short but colorful ceremony.

In a speech read on behalf of HE The President, John Dramani Mahama, the MP for Tema East Constituency Hon. Isaac Ashai Odamtten, called on Ghanaians to depart from acts that have the propensity to retard the growth of our dear Country.

Mrs. Bernice Ofori, the Tema Metropolitan Director of Education, outlined remarkable achievements chalked by the Directorate, with a call on the Assembly to expedite action on the construction of modern Offices for the Directorate.

Present at the ceremony were The MP for Tema Central Constituency, Hon. Charles Forson, Asafoatse Nii Gbemi, Mr. John Nana Owu, MCD, Members of MESEC, Tribal Chiefs, Teachers, Heads of Institutions, Government Officials and people from all walks of life.
