On Tuesday, 12 May 2026, the Mayor of Tema received the newly appointed Metropolitan Chief Imam, Imam Hassan Ahmed, alongside a delegation of community chiefs and Islamic clerics (Ullamahs), at his office at the Tema Metropolitan Assembly.
The courtesy call was to formally introduce the new Chief Imam to the Mayor and the management of the Assembly, while also strengthening the longstanding relationship between the Muslim community and the local administration.
During the meeting, the Mayor expressed gratitude to the Chief Imam and the wider Muslim community for their unwavering support throughout his political journey. He noted that their encouragement and prayers had been instrumental and urged them to continue to have confidence in the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama as he works to deliver a better Ghana for all.
The Mayor further stressed the importance of collaboration between religious leaders and government in fostering peace, development and social cohesion within the metropolis.
Imam Hassan Ahmed, in response, commended the bold and visionary leadership of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly and assured the Mayor of the Muslim leadership’s continued commitment to preaching peace, unity and responsible neighborliness among residents.
He said such values remained essential to building stronger communities and advancing the collective vision of a prosperous and harmonious Ghana.
