A group of market women whose sheds and wares were recently removed from the frontage of a private property at Casino, near the former Access Bank in Community One, have appealed to the Mayor of Tema for assistance.

The traders, who had been operating along the frontage of the property for some time, explained that the owner had obtained a court order to clear them from the area, resulting in the demolition and relocation of their sheds. Feeling aggrieved, they sought the intervention of the Mayor to address their concerns and find a lasting solution to their plight.

In response, the Mayor of Tema expressed empathy for the women and acknowledged the hardship the situation posed to their livelihoods. While stressing the need to respect lawful court orders and property rights, the Mayor assured the traders that their grievances would not be ignored.

To this end, the Mayor designated officials of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly to work closely with the affected women, alongside their Assembly representative, to explore viable alternatives and ensure their concerns are properly addressed.

The move has been welcomed by the traders, who see it as a step towards finding a fair resolution to the ongoing challenge.
