As part of her vision to reset Tema into the “Right Way to Together” agenda, the Mayor of Tema this week held a series of meetings in her office with captains of industry to chart a renewed path for the city’s growth and transformation.
The closed-door engagements brought together key stakeholders from diverse sectors, including SIC Ghana, the Garages Association Zone 28, the Ghana Tourism Authority, and Japan Motors, among others.
The Mayor emphasized that Tema was designed as a model industrial and residential city, and the time had come to realign and reset its growth trajectory into the prosperous, modern “Zotopia City” it was originally envisioned to be .
She further expressed concern over recent trends undermining Tema’s development, stressing that the sacrifices of those who built the city must not go to waste.
> “We cannot allow the sacrifices people made to build Tema to be wasted. Too often, new settlers see Tema as a place to erect containers indiscriminately over gutters and public access ways. This practice destroys the order and value of the city. We need to realign and reset Tema to its original vision — a modern city planned with purpose and dignity,” the Mayor charged.
During the discussions, stakeholders focused on urban renewal, industrial growth, job creation, and sustainable infrastructure development. Industry leaders pledged their support and highlighted the importance of partnerships between government and the private sector in unlocking Tema’s full potential.
The Ghana Tourism Authority noted the need to rebrand Tema as a cultural and tourism hub, while the Garages Association Zone 28 called for support in upgrading artisanal hubs into modern technical centers. SIC Tema Ghana pledged to collaborate on urban resilience and risk management, and Japan Motors expressed readiness to back initiatives that promote smart mobility and modern transport solutions.
The Mayor assured stakeholders that the Assembly would create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive while ensuring that citizens directly benefit from Tema’s growth.
In conclusion, the Mayor reminded participants that the journey to a prosperous Tema requires honesty about the city’s challenges and a bold step to correct them.
> “We must have the courage to rewrite our wrongs. Only then can we reset Tema to its true place — a modern, inclusive, and prosperous city for all,” she declared.
The “Right Way to Together” agenda is expected to roll out in phases, with the first phase focusing on revitalizing reclaiming industrial zones, enhancing tourism infrastructure, improving community services, and strengthening public-private partnerships.
With this renewed commitment, Tema is set on a path to reclaim its rightful place as a prosperous, inclusive, and futuristic city for which originally planned.
