The Mayor of Tema, Honorable Ebi Bright, on Saturday 16th August 2025 joined chiefs, traditional leaders, and residents of Tema Newtown for the annual Homowo Lecture, held as part of this year’s Homowo Festival. The event, organized by the Tema Youth Association in collaboration with the Traditional Council of Tema Newtown, served as a platform to reflect on the resilience and values of the Ga-Dangme people.
In her address, Mayor Ebi Bright commended the organisers for sustaining the festival’s traditions and underscored the importance of culture as a guiding light for both present and future generations. She further highlighted the need to sustain strong family values, stressing that the family is the foundation of community life, social stability, and the nurturing of responsible future leaders.
A highlight of the evening came when a student of Manhean Secondary School presented the Mayor with a hand-crafted portrait, drawing warm applause from the audience. The symbolic gesture was seen as a testament to the admiration and inspiration that the youth of Tema draw from her leadership.
Visibly moved, Hon. Ebi Bright expressed her gratitude to the student and encouraged young people across Tema to nurture their talents and creativity. She noted that just as traditions are passed down through generations, so too must family values and the gifts of the youth be preserved to build a prosperous and united city.
Her presence at the lecture, community members observed, underscored the city’s recognition of culture not only as heritage but also as a living foundation for growth, leadership, and the strengthening of families.
The Homowo Festival remains one of the most significant cultural celebrations in Tema Newtown, and this year’s lecture once again highlighted the values of identity, resilience, family, and togetherness principles the Mayor has pledged to uphold in her service to the people of Tema.
