The over six-decades-long history of the Tema Metro Education Service Directorate, which has relocated multiple times—including occupying its currently inadequate office in Tema Comm. 8—has reached a critical point. The first female Mayor of Tema, Hon. Ebi Bright, has pledged all available resources to support the vision for a permanent office complex.

She made this announcement during the Stakeholder Launch of the project on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the SOS-Hermann Gmeiner School in Tema, following an earlier engagement with the Metro Director of Education, Mrs. Bernice Ofori.

The proposed bold, multi-purpose, ultra-modern building, with auxiliary facilities, project design was unveiled alongside the contractor, the Tema Technical Institute, which has committed its technical expertise. This aligns with the launch and implementation theme, “Operation Self-Help Project.”

The Hon. Mayor used the occasion to urge all interested stakeholders to participate in advancing this vital self-help initiative, while making an initial pledge of one hundred (100) bags of cement as a foundational contribution. She further assured her leadership in mobilising efforts on all fronts, working closely with the Metro Coordinating Director and the Director of Education.

The land allocated for the project is a 200ft by 90ft plot for the Metro Education Directorate, located at the Ministerial Enclave in Tema Community 1, near the Regional Electricity Company of Ghana office. The estimated timeframe is between 8 to 12 months, with a projected cost of Twenty Nine Million Ghana Cedis (GHS 29,000,000.00).
