The Tema Metropolitan Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), with support from the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), successfully organized its 3rd edition of the Security Services Constitution Quiz Competition in the Tema Metropolis. The event, chaired by Mrs. Comfort Aniagyei, Chief Executive Officer of Freeminds Communications Limited, took place on Wednesday, 7th May 2025, at Our Lady of Mercy Senior High School, Community 1, Tema, as a key activity to mark the 2025 Constitution Week Celebration under the theme “Ghana’s Future: Our Collective Responsibility.”
The Constitution Quiz aimed to promote awareness of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, strengthen democratic values among security personnel, and encourage interagency cooperation through intellectual engagement. Participating institutions in this year’s contest included the Ghana Immigration Service (Tema Regional Command), Ghana Navy (Eastern Naval Command), Ghana National Fire Service (Tema Regional Command), and the Customs Division of the GRA (Tema Regional Command).
In her welcome address, the Tema Metro Director of the NCCE, Ms. Gifty Agyeiwaa Badu, expressed gratitude to the TMA for their consistent sponsorship and support. She underscored the importance of the Constitution Quiz as an initiative to promote constitutional literacy and democratic values among security personnel.
She stated, “This annual Constitution Quiz is held in connection with the 1992 Constitution Week Celebration, celebrated annually by the NCCE to commemorate Ghana’s return to democracy. The quiz competition aims at encouraging the study of the 1992 Constitution among the security agencies personnel, promoting civic education and awareness, fostering a deeper understanding of democracy and nation building, and testing the knowledge of personnel on the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.”
Representing the Metropolitan Coordinating Director, Ms. Prudence Clara Anaman delivered a message on his behalf, affirming TMA’s commitment to civic education and national stability. She noted:
“Tema, as Ghana’s heartbeat of industrial and maritime activity, thrives on the foundation of security and stability. This competition is not just a battle of wit; it is a reaffirmation of our collective commitment to the Constitution. By strengthening constitutional literacy among our security forces, we reinforce the very fabric of our national security architecture.”
She commended the NCCE for the initiative and assured that TMA remains a steadfast partner in preserving peace, security, and democratic values in the metropolis and beyond.
Delivering a brief address, Hon. Isaac Ashai Odamtten, Member of Parliament for Tema East Constituency, expressed gratitude to the NCCE and participating agencies:
“I want to thank the NCCE and the officers of the representing security services. I know one agency isn’t here today, but that gives me even more reason to commend those who responded positively. This is not just a quiz—it’s a platform for building collaboration and togetherness. It sets a great example, especially for the students here, that learning and civic engagement go hand-in-hand. I fully support this initiative and pledge my continuous support as your MP.”
The competition tested participants on selected chapters of the 1992 Constitution, the functions of their institutions, and current affairs. It was a keenly contested event, with the Ghana Immigration Service emerging winners with 58 points, followed closely by the Ghana Navy with 57 points. The Ghana National Fire Service and Customs Division placed third and fourth with 34 points and 31 points respectively.
The event was graced by dignitaries including the Greater Accra Regional Director of the NCCE, Mr. Mawuli Agbenu; the Vice-Chairman of the Tema Metro Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC), Nana Ogyedom Ama Tsetsewa I, Osumpahen of Gomoa Assin Traditional Council; regional representatives of the security agencies; district directors of the NCCE; executives of the Tema Metro IPDC; and students and teachers from selected senior high schools in the metropolis.
