The Mayor of Tema, Ebi Bright, has announced an immediate suspension of all new permits for temporary structures within the metropolis. The decision is driven by concerns over public safety, sanitation, and unauthorized developments.

The move targets the growing spread of unregulated kiosks, shipping containers, and stalls — particularly in areas like Community 1 Market, residential zones, school ceremonial roads, and Tema New Town — which have contributed to blocked drainage systems, fire hazards, and obstructed walkways.

She Emphasized Key Measures:

No new permit applications will be accepted for temporary structures.

Unpermitted structures will be removed.

Existing permitted structures will undergo compliance reviews.

The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) is working on a long-term urban space plan in partnership with trader unions and traditional leaders. This will include designated trading areas and safe, affordable infrastructure for vendors.

> “We are not against enterprise — we are against disorder,” Mayor Bright stated. “Let’s build a Tema that works for everyone.”
