In a bid to put smiles on the faces of the Muslim community during the celebration of the 2017 Eid al-Fitr festival, the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) donated assorted food items to Muslims in Tema last Friday, June 23.
The donation was presented by the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) for Tema, Hon. Felix Mensah Nii Anang-La at the Assembly’s precincts. It was a brief but colourful event which was witnessed by a gathering of Muslims from various mosques in the Metropolis who thronged the presentation grounds to participate in the symbolic gesture by TMA. Present at the Assembly to receive the donation was the Tema Metropolitan Chief Imam, Adam Abubakar. He was accompanied by a number of Muslim clerics and others.
The main food items donated were 265 bags of rice and 100 boxes of frytol cooking oil. The items were meant to be distributed to individuals from twenty-three (23) mosques dotted across the Metropolis. The MCE however charged the Committee working on the donation of the food items to increase the number of mosques to thirty (30) so that a substantial number of Muslims can be beneficiaries.
As part of his message to the Muslim community and the people of Tema, Hon. Nii Anang-La praised Muslims in the Metropolis for observing the month of Ramadan peacefully and also praying for the good people of Tema and the entire country during the fasting period. He said it was worthy for the Assembly and the people of Tema to join their Muslim brothers and sisters to celebrate the Eid al-Fitr after the 30 days of fasting and prayers for the success and development of Tema. The MCE wished them a happy Eid Mubarak and admonished them to be cautious in their jubilation by exhibiting a peaceful atmosphere devoid of any negative activity. He equally advised them not to drive carelessly in town so they are not caught by the law.
In a brief interview, the Metro Chief Imam, Adam Abubakar, reminded all Muslims that it was a calendar month to observe such a festival. He acknowledged the invaluable contribution offered by TMA to enable all Muslims have a fruitful celebration through the presentation of the food items as a step in the right direction. The Chief Imam called for attitudinal change among Ghanaians and the people of Tema in particular. He indicated that the change of attitude should be positive, and should reflect in good governance at all levels. Additionally, the Chief Imam believes the attitudinal change will help all and sundry to live in a peaceful and congenial atmosphere at all times.
A number of Assembly members, key heads of departments and staff of the Assembly, were present to witness the brief presentation ceremony. Also present were Muslim clerics from the various mosques.
