Mayor Bright hosts development partners from the Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa (CoM SSA)

The first female Mayor of Tema, Hon. Ebi Bright, hosted a delegation of two members led by Ms. Shea O’Neil (Project Manager) from the CoM SSA Secretariat in Accra, in her office on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

In Ghana, the Com SSA Programme is implemented by the German Society for International Development–Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to support local governments in moving from climate planning to implementation, with a focus on unlocking climate finance at the local level. Ms. Shea O’Neil pledged her commitment to working closely with Mayor Bright and her team for the benefit of the people of Tema.

In her remarks, Mayor Bright highlighted her commitment to the proposed Mayoral Climate Action in leading the technical team at the TMA to bring the needed brightness to Tema and its people, insisting on generating home-grown solutions for this mutual partnership on the underlisted, among others:

1. The suitable situation of new developmental plans within deteriorating infrastructure in an important city like Tema.

2. The possibility of implementing a solar energy-driven economy in Tema to power businesses and industry.

3. The possibility of harnessing municipal bonds to fast-track local economic development into the future.

A Senior Project Advisor at GIZ in the meeting, Mr. Abraham Afful, expressed admiration for Mayor Bright’s developmental-oriented thinking and local solutions-mindedness, rather than just cash handouts.
