Mayor Yohane Amarh Ashitey, received “soobi” (symbolic arrival of celebrants into Tema) at His Office, Tema Metropolitan Assembly, and later joins the three day celebrations that took place at the kpelejootsoshishi (durbar grounds) in Tema Manhean, where he actually partook in the KPELE dance, much to admiration of his kins and kindred.
Mayor Ashitey’s participation in the dance makes him the first ever, sitting Mayor to lead a Kpele group as Flag Bearer. This gesture is seen by many as a mark of bravery and love for one’s culture and heritage.
