The 6th of March is a very important day in the history of our motherland Ghana as it was on that day in 1957 that the fight for freedom from our colonial masters paid off.
As required, Tema Metropolitan Assembly marked the 61st independence anniversary but in the grandest style.
The occasion was commemorated with speeches, parade, awards and cultural display from various entities within the Metropolis.
Gracing the ceremony were dignitaries like, Hon. Felix Mensah Nii Annang-La, Mayor of Tema Metropolitan Assembly, Hon. Titus Glover, Member of Parliament for Tema East, Hon. Kofi Brako, Member of parliament for Tema Central, Tema regional Commander of Police, the Chief Imam and traditional leaders in their full regalia among others.
Various schools in the metropolis participated in the march pass that saw Tema Industrial Mission, Manhean Senior High Technical and Our Lady of Mercy Senior High Schools emerging 3rd,2nd and 1st respectively for the second cycle schools.
In relation to the occasion, a debate was held among the senior high schools in the metropolis. The result of which were Tema Secondary School being the second runner up, Methodist Day Senior High School placing first runner up and Chemu Senior High School as the winner, all of which were awarded.
Other awardees of the day were, Tracy Afoley Larbi, a beneficiary of Hon. Titus Glover’s Mp’s common fund who was adjudged female best student and Joseph Soben Shamback the best male student in the 2017 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations.
