The MCE, Hon. Yohane Amarh Ashitey, Friday morning paid a working visit to the Tema General Hospital, where he inspected progress of work on the ongoing Tema Regional Hospital currently under construction.
Work is progressing steadily as workers on site were busy moving materials and equipment.
The Medical Director of the Hospital Dr. Anthony together with the Hospital Administrator took the Mayor on his tour of the facility.
Hon. Ashitey and his team of Engineers from the Assembly had earlier met with squatters who have pitched their camp on the premises of the hospital, a situation the Mayor described as unacceptable.
The Tema Metropolitan Assembly had previously engaged the squatters severally on the need for them to relocate. The Mayor once again extended their grace period to the end of March. The March deadline was reached by all parties and at the end, Hon. Ashitey asked the Hospital administration to assist the affected persons with some funds as they have voluntarily decided to vacate the premises.
Most of these squatters are retirees of the Hospital, their friends and relatives.
Their illegal occupation poses huge security threat to medical staff working at the hospital, especially during night shift. [17th February 2023]
