The Mayor of Tema, Hon. Ebi Bright, on Monday, 12 January 2026, visited Tema Manhean to cut the sod for the construction of a new Neonatal Unit at the Manhean Polyclinic under the PMI WILL initiative.
The project, which is expected to be completed within four months, will be supervised by the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) to ensure quality delivery and timely completion. It is being co-sponsored by the Government of Canada and the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, underscoring a strong partnership aimed at strengthening healthcare infrastructure at the community level.
The construction of the new Neonatal Unit aims to improve access to specialized care for newborns, enhance the facility’s capacity to manage complex deliveries, and provide a safer and more conducive environment for neonatal care.
Upon completion, the facility is expected to reduce referrals to tertiary hospitals and significantly improve health outcomes for premature and critically ill babies in Tema Manhean and surrounding communities.
