Tema Mayor, Hon. Yohane Amarh Ashitey arrived over the weekend after a study tour in Copenhagen. The Mayor’s visit has opened up further opportunities that has the potential to strengthen the existing developmental collaboration between Tema and Aarhus, Denmark.
Tema Metropolitan Assembly and the City of Aarhus in Denmark have an existing collaboration (Strategic Sector Cooperation in Wastewater Management). This partnership has so far impacted positively on building the capacity of the Assembly in delivering efficient municipal services to residents and businesses in Tema.
Mayor Ashitey’s ultimate vision, is to take the partnership a notch higher, indeed to a point where residents in Tema, could report all Sanitation related and other challenges, directly to the Department responsible, and same will be monitored at his own Office through the application of a software. It is expected that this innovation will significantly improve on the service delivery to citizenry and businesses in Tema. The Danish experience is worth replicating in Tema. That is the real essence of international diplomacy.
