The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Henry Quartey has announced that the Greater Accra Regional Independence Anniversary will be hosted in Tema.
The Minister disclosed this when he paid a Courtesy call on the Tema Traditional Council at a short ceremony at Tema Mantse Palace.
Hon. Quartey told the Chiefs that HE The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has approved that the regional celebrations be held in Tema.
Responding to the Minister’s announcement, Nii Amarh Somponu, Tema Shippi expressed the Traditional Council’s appreciation for the honour done them. Stating that this affirms the fact that The President has love for the people of Tema and appreciates the sacrifices made by their forebears to the development of modern Tema as the Industrial hub of the nation.
The Minister outlined activities that will herald the celebration, these include;
1. Operation Clean Your Frontage 2nd-4th March, 2023.
The climax of the Clean up campaign will be on Saturday 4th March 2023, when all business activities will be expected to be suspended between 6am-12 noon.
2. Free Health Screening and Free NHIS Registration at the TMA Forecourt.
3.Inter District Soccer Tournament involving Tema Metro, Kpone Katamanso, ASHMA and Tema West, to be held at the Nii Kraku Sports Complex.
The Minister together with the Mayor later held series of consultative meetings with stakeholders on the programme of activities and their expected roles. [25th February 2023]
