The Mayor

Hon. Ebi Bright brings over two decades of diverse professional experience to her role as Mayor of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly. Born and raised in Tema, Mayor Bright has deep roots in the community – from her childhood home in Community 9 to her education at Datus Secondary in Community 7, and her current residence in Community 10 where she has lived for the past 15 years.

A proud daughter of the soil with Ga- Adangbe heritage, Mayor Bright’s connection to Tema extends beyond geography – it is intertwined with her identity and mission to serve. Her intimate knowledge of the city’s neighbourhoods, challenges, and immense potential uniquely positions her to lead Tema’s transformation into a sustainable industrial, economic, and social powerhouse.

Education & Expertise  

Mayor Bright brings exceptional academic credentials to her role. She holds an MA in Global Diplomacy from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, a Professional Executive Masters in Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution from the University of Virgin Islands/Gamey and Gamey Institute, and a First-Class Honours degree in Development Communication from the African University College of Communications.

Her professional background spans communication consultancy, entrepreneurship, marketing media production, corporate strategy and public service. As Managing Director of Earthnic Vantage Limited, she demonstrated leadership in strategic planning, brand development, and team management.  Her work in the West African film industry and as a television host provided valuable experience in public communication and cultural advocacy.

Vision for Tema

Mayor Bright’s administration is focused on transforming Tema into a model city that reclaims its position as Ghana’s industrial heartbeat while embracing innovation and inclusion. Her strategic priorities include:

Implementing a 24-Hour Economy

Creating a vibrant metropolitan area where businesses, services, and cultural activities thrive around the clock, driving economic growth and enhancing quality of life for all residents.

 Revitalizing Tema’s Industrial Core

Fostering innovation and modernization in manufacturing and logistics, redeveloping the Light Industrial Area into a vibrant Artisanal Hub, and promoting industrial partnerships that create sustainable jobs.

Modernizing Infrastructure

Addressing housing needs, upgrading sewage systems, expanding road networks, strengthening healthcare access, and enhancing educational facilities throughout the metropolis.

Promoting Digital Transformation

Leading Tema’s participation in Ghana’s 1 million Coders Program, with a target of training at least 10,000 young people from Tema, ensuring at least 30% female participation.

Environmental Sustainability

Implementing urban greening initiatives, protecting waterways, and developing environmentally responsible waste management systems.

Transparent Governance

Instituting systems that ensure accountability, reduce revenue leakage, and promote citizen participation in local governance.

Prior Public Service

Before her appointment as Mayor, Hon. Bright served as a three-time Parliamentary Candidate for Tema Central Constituency (2016, 2020, and 2024), where she established herself as a champion for community development and responsive leadership. She also served as Convener of the Culture, Arts, and Tourism Committee for the National Democratic Congress, crafting sectoral blueprints for national development.

From 2017 until 2020, Mayor Bright served as spokesperson for the late President Jerry John Rawlings, an experience that honed her skills in strategic communication, discretion, and representative leadership.

Community Commitment

Throughout her career, Mayor Bright has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to community service, providing pro bono advocacy, leadership training, mentorship, career guidance, and conflict resolution services to youth and marginalized groups. She is passionate about promoting African historical and sociocultural education through visual, theatrical, and vocational arts.

Her leadership philosophy is rooted in the belief that good ideas have no party colours. Mayor Bright is dedicated to inclusive governance that brings together stakeholders from across the political spectrum, traditional authorities, business leaders, and community representatives to build a Tema we can all be proud of.
