The Mayor of Tema, Hon. Ebi Bright, has reaffirmed the city’s commitment to protecting children as Ghana commemorates African Children’s Day.

The Mayor made the statement at a child health and safety stakeholders’ workshop organized by the Child Health and Safety Organization at the SOS Children’s Village, Tema, under the theme: “Protecting Children through Awareness, Education and Prevention.”

The event brought together stakeholders from health, education, security, civil society organizations, and the Community Services Department, including the Social Welfare Unit of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly.

The Mayor stressed that child safety is a right, not a privilege, and that creating a safer city is part of protecting children. She noted that clearing unsafe walkways, removing hazards, and improving public spaces help children move safely and reduce risks.

She highlighted Tema’s preventive approach, including the designation of security zones around schools, hospitals and public infrastructure since July 2025 to protect residents before harm occurs.

“Treatment is empathy. Prevention is justice,” she said.

The Mayor commended Mr. Samuel Frimpong, founder of Child Health and Safety Organization, for turning personal loss into a mission to protect other children.

On African Children’s Day, Tema renewed its commitment to ensuring every child can grow, learn and thrive in a safe environment.

The message was delivered on behalf of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama and partners working towards a safer future for children.
