Good morning:
\nIt is with great honor that I welcome you to the swearing-in and inauguration of the Assembly and Unit Committee members of this august Assembly. Let me take this opportunity to particularly thank you, Prof. Victor Kwame Agyeman (Chairman of the Public Services Commission) representing His Excellency the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, Her Worship, Metro Electoral Officer, Elders of the Tema Traditional Council, Tribal Heads, our Revered Clergy and Members of the Metropolitan Security Council for honouring our invitation to this all- important event.
\nI specially want to congratulate Hon. Assembly Members and Unit Committee Members Elect for availing themselves to serve the communities they represent. Indeed, it is an arduous task and it takes people with the spirit of volunteerism to stand out and be counted in promoting governance at the local level. Let me take this opportunity to thank our gallant former Hon Assembly Members and Unit Committee members of the 8th Assembly. Indeed, your level of commitment and contribution to the development of the metropolis through thick and thin was unmatched. Indeed, local politics in the Tema metropolis is a competitive one and I have no shred of doubt of your commitment in supporting the new Assembly to contribute towards addressing developmental needs affecting our constituents in the metropolis.
\nChairman of the Public Services Commission, Nii Mei Naa Mei, in fulfilment of provisions in Article 240 of the 1992 Constitution and the Local Governance Act of 2016, Act 936 Tema Metropolitan Assembly would be inaugurating its 9th Assembly following a successful District Level Elections held on 19th December 2023. Consequently, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana mandated under Section 5, Sub section (1d) of the Local Governance Act of 2016 act 936 has fulfilled his mandate in appointing thirty percent (30%) of elected Members to constitute the Tema Metropolitan Assembly.
\nIt is my fervent hope that your membership into the 9th Assembly would contribute towards building on the foundation laid by your predecessors. It is out of your dedicated service to your locality that has been recognised by your constituents. Being closely in touch with people in your locality is of prime importance to good governance. This proves that irrespective of where you are, your contribution to nation building is important and the citizenry highly recognise and appreciate it. Fundamentally, the citizenry expects you to be involved in addressing pertinent public service delivery deficits in your locality. I urge you Hon Assembly members and Unit Committee members to work as a team to champion the development of the metropolis. Management of the Assembly is in a position to provide you with all the necessary support towards building your capacity to promote good governance and development in the metropolis. Let us bear in mind that it was out of confidence reposed in us by our constituents that we find ourselves here. Let us at every point in time ensure that the needs of our people are paramount in discharging our duties as Hon Assembly and Unit Committee members of this Assembly.
