It was all smiles for some Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Tema, on 24th may 2018 as they benefit from the District Assembly Common Fund.<\/p>\n

Gathered at the fore court of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, 177 persons including Matilda Dzogbeku, Frederick Asor, Luckystar Deladem, Rita Amoah were presented with various sums of money to support their livelihood.<\/p>\n

The event started with an opening address by Mr. Samuel Donkor, the Coordinating Director of T.M.A who advised the beneficiaries to make very good use of the support.<\/p>\n

He said \u201cthis is a government initiative for the disabled persons to enhance their living, we want people to recognize what the government is doing for you and we want you to help yourselves by investing in yourselves, a trade or business to multiply the money in other to change your lives\u201d.<\/p>\n

The presentation was done by the Metropolitan Chief Executive Hon. Felix Mensah Nii Anang-La. He appealed to the beneficiaries to desist from begging for alms on the streets, while encouraging them to consult the assembly in times of difficulties, adding that they can be as productive as anyone. \u201cIf you find yourself in any difficulty, please approach us and the necessarily assistance shall be given you\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

As mandated by the law, two (2) percent of District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) is to be used to support PWDs in their areas.<\/p>\n

The Head of Social Welfare Department and Community Development of T.M.A, Madam Matilda, stressed the need to judiciously use the monies received as it is disheartening to see persons with disabilities hustling, risking their lives in the streets begging for alms.<\/p>\n

The parents of Luckystar Deladem, a 10-year-old girl with cerebral palsy<\/strong> who received the support for the first time were grateful to the government for including their daughter in the social welfare.<\/p>\n
