Fishermen in Tema on Wednesday 30th<\/sup> May 31, 2018 received 72 subsidized Yamaha outboard motors procured for them by a joint effort of the TMA, the Ministry Fisheries and Aquaculture and the Greater Accra Regional Ministry.<\/p>\n

Hon Felix Mensah Nii Anang-La, the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tema together with Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. \u00a0Ishmael Ashitey, Nii Adjei Kraku II, Paramount Chief of Tema Traditional Area, the matro Co-ordinating Director, Mr. Samuel Donkor and some other dignitaries presented the items to them at the fishing harbor.<\/p>\n

In his address, Hon. Felix Nii Anang-La said, this yearly act by the government is to alleviate the financial stress in the acquisition of outboard motors and to support the works of the fishermen especially in this season of bumper catch.<\/p>\n

He however stressed that the motors are strictly for the fishermen in the area and cautioned against non-fishermen receiving any of the motors, saying such persons shall be dealt with.<\/p>\n

According to the MCE, they have a committee who works tirelessly in identifying the fishermen and they have a list which they will go by.<\/p>\n

He said \u201cthe Assembly is coming up with training programs like survival training, book-keeping and other managerial skills in financial management to equip the fishermen and fishmongers with the necessary skills to boost the fishing industry\u201d.<\/p>\n

He also used the opportunity to advise the people to practice proper hygiene and keep their environment clean to attract more customers.<\/p>\n

On his part, Hon. Ishmael Ashitey, Greater Accra Regional Minister, advised canoe owners to do well to maintain the outboard motors. He asked them to use the required fuel and not to mix it with the likes of engine oil or kerosene, as that would cause untimely breakdown of the motors.<\/p>\n

The Chairperson for the event, Nii Adjei Kraku II, Paramount Chief of Tema Traditional Area, on behalf of the fishermen, expressed gratitude to the authorities for the support and also charged the fisher folks to be health conscious.<\/p>\n

He commended Hon. Anang-La for his admirable leadership and outstanding contribution towards sanitation and development.<\/p>\n
