In the course of a cleanup exercise by the TMA and proud Ga-Dangme youth of Tema New Town, three men were apprehended and sent to the Manhean police station for questioning.<\/p>\n
The operators of an illegally constructed sewer bank were discovered and arrested. It is noted that the tankers go around collecting fecal matter in and around Tema at a fee and later discharge it into a manhole that is directly linked to the Chemu lagoon.<\/p>\n
A leakage drew the attention of the populace and a trace lead to their whereabouts. The Mayor instructed the arrest of the operators, seizure of their two vehicles and closure of the facility, part of which was used to facilitate child prostitution operation<\/p>\n
The act violets the environmental health laws and can cause adverse health hazards or disease outbreaks. The residents claim they have complained and reported severally to some local heads to no avail for reasons best known to them.<\/p>\n
The mayor used the opportunity to warn anyone going contrary to the environmental health laws to advise themselves or face prosecution.<\/p>\n
Sanitation is one of the major problems the metropolis is facing, that is why the Tema Restoration Agenda prioritizes it among others. A special sanitation task force has been formed by the assembly and given the directive to work with the various electoral areas to enforce the by-laws on health and sanitation.<\/p>\n
