Social Welfare and Community Development Department

The Social Welfare andCommunity Development Department shall assist the Assembly to formulate andimplement social welfare and community development policies within theframework of national policy.


TheDepartment shall:

 

(a) Facilitatecommunity-based rehabilitation of persons with disabilities;

 

(b) Assistand facilitate provision of community care services including:

i) registrationof persons with disabilities;

ii) assistanceto the aged;

iii) personal.social welfare services;

iv) hospitalwelfare services;

v) assistanceto street children, child survival and development; and

vi) socio-economicand emotional stability in families;

 

(c) Assistto maintain specialized residential services in the Metro;

 

(d) Facilitate theregistration and supervision of non-governmental organizations and theiractivities in the Metro.;

 

(e) Assist to organizecommunity development programmes to improve and enrich rural life through:

i) Literacyand adult education classes;

ii) Voluntary contributionand communal labour for the provision of facilities and services such as water,schools, library, community centres and public places of convenience or;

iii) Teaching deprived orrural women in home management and child care.
