The Public Relations Officer of the Tema Regional Police Command, DSP Joseph Benefo Darkwa has appealed to the public to support the police by reporting and providing information on the whereabouts of criminals and suspected crime situations.
He was addressing a gathering at the ongoing Town hall meetings organized by Tema Metropolitan Assembly where concerns were raised about criminal activities in the area.
He assured the people of the police’s readiness to combat crime. “Report the criminals and we will plan and organize a scoop to make sure that we come and chase out the criminals in the communities” he said.
He said apart from the National Headquarters, the Tema Regional Police is the only command to have acquired drone to assist crime fighting, adding that the police patrol cars have been increased as well.
DSP Darkwa gave an example of a criminal activity the police dealt with this week. He narrated that a lotto agent was robbed at gunpoint in broad daylight. He said upon report, the police intelligently gathered information immediately and traced the robbers to a guest house at Golf City in the Kpone-Katamanso District. The guest house was serving as their hideout for about a month under the name “stranger”.
According to him, it took tactical experience of the police to gun down one of the four robbers who engaged the police in a fierce fire exchange. His unidentified body has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue in Accra. A manhunt for the other three who are at large has been launched.
DSP Darkwa also thanked the Mayor of Tema, Hon. Felix Mensah Nii Anang-La for including the police and other institutions in the Town Hall meetings because it gives them the opportunity to interrelate and elucidate the citizenry about their institutions.
